How to read a BIS hallmark
The four marks on every hallmarked piece — and how to verify the HUID in under a minute.
Since 2021 every hallmarked gold piece sold in India carries three marks: the BIS logo, the fineness in parts per thousand (916, 750, 585 or 375) and a six-digit alphanumeric HUID.
Open the BIS Care app, choose “Verify HUID”, and enter the code stamped inside the piece. The app returns the jeweller, the assaying centre and the purity recorded at testing.
At Swarnmala the HUID is also printed on your invoice so you can check it later without a loupe.
